Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral to see a chiropractor, physiotherapist, or massage therapist?

No referral is required in Ontario to see a chiropractor, physiotherapist, or registered massage therapist. You can book directly with our team and start care right away. Some extended health plans may ask for a physician’s note before they reimburse you; if you’re unsure, we can help you check your benefits before your first visit.

What conditions do you treat?

We see a wide range of musculoskeletal concerns for adults, seniors, students, and athletes. Common conditions include acute and chronic back pain, neck pain, headaches, whiplash, shoulder impingement and rotator cuff issues, tennis or golfer’s elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, hip pain and sciatica, knee osteoarthritis, runner’s knee and IT band syndrome, ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis, and postural strain from desk work.

Beyond injury care, our team provides preventative programs focused on mobility, strength, and ergonomics to help you move better and reduce the risk of flare‑ups.

What happens during my first visit?

Your initial appointment includes a comprehensive health history and focused physical examination. We review your goals, evaluate movement, strength, and joint mechanics, and—when appropriate—perform special tests to clarify the diagnosis. We’ll discuss your assessment findings in clear language, outline a practical plan, and begin treatment on day one unless further imaging or referral is needed.

Treatment may include hands‑on manual therapy, joint mobilization or manipulation (if indicated and consented), soft‑tissue techniques, exercise prescription, education on activity modification, and modalities such as laser therapy or spinal decompression when clinically appropriate.

How many visits will I need, and how quickly will I feel better?

Recovery time varies with the diagnosis, severity, and your goals. Many patients notice relief within 1–3 visits for acute strains, while more complex or long‑standing issues (like disc injuries or tendinopathy) may require a structured plan over several weeks. We set measurable milestones (pain reduction, range of motion, functional strength) and adjust visit frequency as you improve. Our goal is always to empower you with home strategies so you rely on fewer in‑clinic visits over time.

What is spinal decompression and who is it for?

Spinal decompression is a non‑surgical therapy that gently distracts the spine to reduce pressure on discs and nerve roots. It may help with disc herniations, bulges, degenerative disc disease, or sciatica. Sessions are comfortable and customized to your tolerance. We combine decompression with specific exercises, postural coaching, and manual therapy to address the underlying cause rather than symptoms alone.

How does laser therapy work?

Low‑level laser therapy (LLLT) uses specific wavelengths of light to support cellular metabolism and microcirculation. Patients often notice reduced soreness and improved tissue recovery for conditions like tendinopathies, sprains, and joint irritation. It’s non‑invasive, quick, and pairs well with exercise‑based rehab for longer‑term results.

Do you provide custom orthotics? How are they made?

Yes. We assess foot mechanics, gait, and footwear, and then capture a precise 3D impression to fabricate your custom orthotics. These devices can help redistribute pressure, support the arch, and improve alignment up the kinetic chain, which may reduce stress on the ankles, knees, hips, and low back. We’ll review break‑in instructions and footwear pairing to ensure comfort and durability.

Is treatment safe? What if I don’t want spinal manipulation?

Your comfort and consent come first. We explain options and obtain informed consent before any technique. If you prefer to avoid joint manipulation, that’s absolutely fine—we can use mobilizations, soft‑tissue therapy, exercise, decompression, laser therapy, or other evidence‑based approaches to meet your goals.

What should I wear and bring to my appointment?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows movement and access to the area being assessed (e.g., shorts for knee issues, tank or sports top for shoulder/neck). Bring your insurance card (if applicable), a list of medications, previous imaging reports if you have them, and suitable footwear if we’re assessing gait or orthotics.

Do you direct bill insurance? What about WSIB and MVA claims?

Yes—we offer direct billing to many extended health benefit plans to simplify payment. We also accept WSIB and provide care for motor vehicle accident (MVA) patients. Our administrative team helps you navigate forms and communicates with insurers so you can focus on recovery. If your plan requires a prescription for reimbursement, we’ll let you know in advance.

How do I reschedule or cancel an appointment?

Please call or email our front desk to reschedule or cancel. We appreciate as much notice as possible so we can offer that time to another patient. Late‑cancellation and no‑show policies help us keep access open; our team can review details when you book.

What are the clinic hours and parking options?

We offer extended weekday hours and Saturday availability. There’s free on‑site parking and the clinic is easily accessible from the Woodbine and Highway 7 area. If you have mobility needs, let us know in advance and we’ll arrange assistance.

What is the difference between chiropractic and physiotherapy? How do I choose?

Both professions help people move with less pain and greater function. Chiropractors often emphasize joint mechanics and spinal health using manual therapy, mobilization or manipulation (when appropriate), soft‑tissue work, and exercise. Physiotherapists focus on restoring movement through exercise prescription, manual therapy, and education. In many cases the best choice is a team approach—we collaborate internally to match you with the right provider at the right stage of recovery.

Can I keep exercising or working during treatment?

Usually yes—staying active often speeds recovery. We’ll outline what to continue, what to modify, and what to pause temporarily. Expect specific home exercises to reinforce your clinic sessions. If your job is physically demanding or involves prolonged sitting, we’ll tailor strategies such as micro‑breaks, mobility resets, and ergonomic changes.

How do you set pricing and what payment methods are accepted?

Our fees reflect the time, training, and technology involved in your care. Initial assessments include a thorough evaluation and treatment plan; follow‑ups focus on targeted progressions. We accept common payment methods and can direct bill many insurers. For current pricing, see our Rates page or contact our desk—we’re happy to provide estimates for your specific plan.

What should I expect after a treatment session?

Mild post‑treatment soreness can occur—especially after soft‑tissue work or a new exercise program—and typically resolves within 24–48 hours. We’ll give you after‑care tips such as light mobility work, hydration, and heat/ice guidance. If you experience unusual or persistent discomfort, contact us so we can adjust your plan promptly.

Are your services safe during pregnancy?

Yes—care is adapted to each stage of pregnancy. We prioritize positions and techniques that are comfortable and safe for you and your baby. Many expecting patients find relief from low‑back pain, pelvic discomfort, and postural tension. Always let us know if you’re pregnant so we can tailor your assessment and treatment accordingly.
